Port Manatee to dedicate new Berth 12 on Oct. 29; governor is invited
MANATEE -- Manatee County Port Authority officials have set Oct. 29 as the date of a ribbon-cutting ceremony commemorating the opening of Berth 12, and they are hoping Gov. Rick Scott will be among those in attendance.
Carlos Buqueras, Port Manatee's executive director, has invited the governor as well as other dignitaries to the event, set for 2 p.m. Oct. 29 at the port's Berth 12 and its first dedicated container yard, according to county emails and a copy of the invitations.
Officials from the governor's office Thursday said they could not confirm he would be in attendance, as his public scheduled has not yet been released for that day.
