Two Cortez restaurants, Tide Tables and Star Fish Co. Restaurant and Market reopened Wednesday morning after recuperating from Tropical Storm Colin damage.

Karen Bell, owner of Star Fish and co-owner of Tide Tables, said she wanted to reopen yesterday. The heavy rain and wind made it impossible.

“We were trying to open yesterday because we thought people would want to come out and see what was going on,” Bell said. “But it was just too nasty.”

When the Star Fish restaurant has to close because of a tropical storm, Bell said she pays employees because it’s not their fault. She estimates she could have lost anywhere between $2,000 and $5,000 in sales per day on top of payroll.

Both restaurants reopened at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday.
