You might think a smashed cheeseburger doesn’t sound so great, but it promises to be all the rage at Smashburger.
The craft burger franchise chain will open at 10 a.m. June 22 at 2805 University Parkway. The 2,500-square-foot University Park location is the company’s first inroads into the Bradenton-Sarasota area. Indoor seating provides for 73 people, and more than 50 can sit outside while enjoying smash-terpieces. The restaurant will be open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.
Smashburger also has locations in Orlando, Miami, Jacksonville and Tallahassee.
It’s the way the 100 percent certified angus beef patties are cooked that makes them different from other burgers, the Smashburger website claims. The beef is never frozen and “is smashed on a 400-degree flat grill to sear in the juicy flavor.” Customers can also order chicken burgers, salads or create their own sandwiches.

The menu at the Sarasota Smashburger will cater to area flavors, according to a Smashburger release, with items like the Medianoche Smashburger and Smashchicken sandwich topped with smoked ham, aged Swiss cheese, pickles, red onion and mustard on an egg bun. Alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages are available.
Smashburger has more than 360 locations in 35 U.S. states and eight countries.
