Chef demo at Arts & Eats features chicken and waffles

Today, Dec. 5, is National Comfort Food Day. And I don’t know what’s more comforting than chicken and waffles. OK, anything with mashed potatoes is on my list. But, if you want to learn how to make the classic combination of fried chicken with crispy, pillowy waffles look no further than Bradenton’s Village of the Arts.

Chef Jim Copening of Arts & Eats, 1114 12th St. W., Bradenton, will hold a demonstration from 11 a.m. to noon Saturday. He will share his way of preparing fried chicken with waffles and grits.

Cost is $10 and for an additional $5 you get lunch. You can make reservations at 941-201-6647.

Copening holds a demonstration on the second Saturday of each month. Past topics include how to cook fish and how to make an Italian-style open fruit pie.

The restaurant will also be open with a full menu from 4-7 p.m. Dec. 24 and 5-9 p.m. Dec. 25.
