Darwin Brewing to host inaugural Ribfest on July 1

What’s more American than ribs and beer to celebrate the Fourth of July holiday weekend? Darwin Brewing Co. is holding it’s first Ribfest. The event, which runs 4-11 p.m. July 1, features a barbecue team competition, live music all day and a patriotic costume contest. And, of course, Darwin’s beer, including Summadayze IPA.

As an added bonus, fireworks are scheduled to go off next door at LECOM Park after the Marauders game.

Teams of amateur and professional barbecue chefs will be cooking ribs that will be judged by celebrity judges, according to a press release.

Ribfest attendees will receive one sample from each team in exchange for a $10 donation. All proceeds donated to Turning Points Yellow Ribbon Veterans’ Program.

Scheduled entertainment includes Dan & Becca Shafer (The Dram) from 4:30-5:45 p.m., All Day Tuck from 6:15-7:45 p.m. and Bradenton favorites Have Gun, Will Travel from 8-10 p.m.

Guests can show their American spirit by donning an All-American costume. The Most Patriotic Costume, as selected by the celebrity judges, will win a 64-ounce DBC growler with a refill.

Food trucks, other vendors and kids activities are also planned.

Do you think your ribs are the best in town? The competition is free to enter but you must supply everything needed to make and serve your ribs. Each entry will be scored by five celebrity judges in the areas of Presentation, Taste/flavor, Texture and Best Incorporation of Darwin Brewing Co. beer.
