Patrick J. and Sarah Tighe were chairman and chairwoman for the afternoon, which began with a reception in The Living Room where new and longtime supporters connected with board members and civic leaders including State Attorney Alexcia Cox and Public Defender Daniel Eisinger.
After the reception, guests moved to the Royal Poinciana Ballroom for a welcome from Xiomara Ordonez and an invocation from Pastor Brenda Ray of Redemptive Life Fellowship.
Ray is the widow of Bishop Harold Calvin Ray, a stalwart supporter of CARP who passed away eight months earlier and was recognized as honorary chairman in memoriam.
During lunch, Rick Hutchinson opened the program by introducing Cox and Eisinger, as well as program directors Dennis Langbein and Carolyn Emmons, who spoke of CARP's transformative impact.
The afternoon's highlight was the appearance of singer-songwriter Carnie Wilson, who with her sister Wendy Wilson and cousin Chynna Phillips formed the pop vocal group Wilson Phillips.
Carnie and Wendy are the daughters of the late Brian Wilson, founder of The Beach Boys.
Wilson's story of her personal journey included sometimes painfully candid reflections on life as a Beach Boys baby, her battles with depression and alcohol, and the vital role CARP's mission plays in offering hope and healing riveted the attendees.
Liz Quirantes of Channel 12 was emcee for the afternoon, which was attended by more than 280 people.
Proceeds assist CARP in its mission to offer hope to the underserved alcoholic and drug-addicted. CARP residences employ an abstinence-based 12-step recovery model proven to be effective against addiction, with 24-hour supervision.
Its gender-specific 12-step Homes for men and women, provide supervised, abstinence-based recovery services at no cost to clients, ensuring access to supportive, transformative care for those seeking long-term recovery.
The homes are supported entirely by private donations.
