Local prep sports roundup | Ronald Taylor scores 32 to lead Southeast past Palmetto in boys basketball

Ronald Taylor scored a season-high 32 points and was joined in double figures by four teammates as the Seminoles defeated the host Palmetto Tigers 89-80 in a boys basketball contest Friday evening.

Also scoring in double figures for the Noles (16-8) were Tre Alexandrea (19), Alex Taylor (12), Corey Davis (11), Jonathan Colon (10).

Tre Clark led Palmetto (10-11) with 26 points in the regular-season finale. Kyle Edwards added 17 and Daquan Kearse finised with 13.

Bayshore 67, Manatee 52 -- Jaylen Pauley scored 16 and Vernard Brown contributed 11 points and nine rebounds to lead Bayshore (11-13) in the regular-season finale. The Bruins open the Class 5A, District 11 playoffs at home against Tarpon Springs on Tuesday.

BRADEN RIVER 62, OUT-OF-DOOR ACADEMY 52 -- The Pirates jumped to an 11-2 lead at end of first quarter, and looked Curtis Cobb scored career-high 21 points with five rebounds and three assists in a victory over the host Thunder.

Also leading the Pirates were Deoni Cason (six points, seven assists, two steals), Daniel Tart (15 points, eight rebounds), and Tyler Dyson (nine points, 12 rebounds).

The Pirates (14-10, 4-4) face Palmetto on Wednesday in a district contest.

Boys soccer

COMMUNITY SCHOOL OF NAPLES 8, OUT-OF-DOOR ACADEMY 1 -- Class 1A-District 8 champion Community School cruised to the Class 1A-Region 2 quarterfinal victory thanks to a six-goal second half.

Thunder freshman Josh Fernandez scored his team's goal early in the second half to make the score 2-1.

Community School countered 10 minutes later and finished with a flurry.

The Seahawks will travel to Bradenton on Tuesday to face St. Stephen's Episcopal in the regional semifinals.

College baseball

CHIPOLA COLLEGE 7, STATE COLLEGE OF FLORIDA 3 -- The Manatees dropped their season opener to the Marianna-based Indians in the annual JUCO First Pitch Classic tournament at Calvary Christian High School in Clearwater.

Leading the SCF offense were Richie Rivera (1-for-4, RBI double), Ethan Skender (1-for-3, RBI), Michael Gizzi scored run.
