Siegel leads Saint Stephen's state qualifiers
CLEARWATER -- Kaitlyn Siegel followed her district championship in the high jump with a region title at the Class 1A-Region 3 meet at Countryside High School on Thursday. Siegel, who also finished fourth in the triple jump, was one of two region champions for Saint Stephen's. The Falcons' 3200-meter relay team also took first place in Clearwater.
Five athletes qualified for the Class 1A state meet, which begins May 6 at IMG Academy. Jordon Murrell finished third in 200 dash and also was part of the Saint Stephen's 400 relay, which finished second. Andrew Csubak, who led off the Falcons' 3,200, added a second-place finish in the 800 run.
Saraiah Walkes led Out-of-Door Academy at the region meet with a pair of third-place finishes. Walkes qualified for the 1A meet in both the 100 and 200 dashes. Sofia Gardinier was Out-of-Door's only other qualifier with a third-place finish in the 400 dash.
The top four finishers in each event qualified for the state meet, which takes place across two days next week in Bradenton.
