Phillips almost hits for cycle in ODA's 13-5 win over Admiral Farragut

ST. PETERSBURG -- Park Phillips came up one hit short of the cycle on Monday as Out-of-Door Academy defeated Admiral Farragut 13-5 in the opening game of the baseball season.

Phillips had a single, double and home run, and also stole three bases for the Thunder (1-0).

Pitcher Hunter Bosumil got the win.

Austen Ringling was 2 for 2, and Alex DiMare contribued a single and triple.

Their next game is Tuesday at St. Petersburg Catholic.

MANATEE 5, BROOKS-DEBARTOLO 2 -- The Hurricanes got off to a good start with a home win. Garrett Richelieu had two doubles and two RBI, and also scored two runs in Manatee's first win of the season.

Orlando Ruiz also had a double and scored a run. Eric Crawford was the winning pitcher, going five innings, striking out seven, walking two and giving up just one hit. Manatee's next game is at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Braden River.

Girls softball

SOUTHEAST 3, SARASOTA CHRISTIAN 2 -- Rebecca Boesen (2-1) struck out 17 in seven innings as the host Seminoles (2-1) beat the Blazers.

Yami Regalado went 2 for 3 and had an RBI. Shaylene Hold also had an RBI.

Their next game is at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Lakewood St. Pete in St. Petersburg.
