Cohen wins opening match in 4A tennis tournament

Lakewood Ranch freshman Gia Cohen won her opening match in the Class 4A State girls tennis tournament when she defeated Kelly Antkiewicz of St. Thomas Aquinas 6-1. 6-1 on

Monday at Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs.

Cohen will face freshman Alana Wolfberg of Timber Creek at 8 a.m. in her second round match in individual singles on Tuesday.

"She played well and it was a good warmup match to get her into the tournament," Lakewood Ranch head coach Ed Bonger said."It will be a tough match against Alana. She is nationally ranked (11th by Tennis Recruiting Network). Gia is excited to see how she does. She is not worried about the pressure because she has played in bigger events."
