Tigers roll past St. Pete in girls hoops

Taylor Rozier dropped 18 points and grabbed 15 rebounds and was joined in her double-double efforts by Tina Stephens with 10 points and 12 boards as Palmetto routed St. Petersburg in girls basketball action Friday night, 67-38.

Anissa Washington led the Tigers in scoring with 19 points.

LAKE HIGHLAND PREP 74, LAKEWOOD RANCH 34 -- Without two starters, including star LaDazhia Williams, the Mustangs were no match for the Highlanders in the Florida Prospects Tournament at Orlando Dr. Phillips.

Senior Kailyn Scully led the way for Ranch with 12 points, six rebounds and three steals, while India Searls added seven points, seven rebounds and two steals.

The Mustangs (4-1) return to action at noon Saturday vs. Colonial.

Boys basketball

FREEDOM 68, SOUTHEAST 66 -- Freedom High of Tampa nipped the Seminoles Friday at the Turkey Classic in Palmetto.

A putback by Freedom with 20 second left provided the winning points.

Ronald Taylor scored 19 points to lead Southeast (1-2). Tre Alexanderea and Core1y Davis chipped in 14 apiece. Keivous Brooks added 10 points and six steals.

ST. PETE GIBBS 61, BRADENTON CHRISTIAN 58 -- At Palmetto High, Jake Lister scored 17 points and Alex Telfair added 15, but the Panthers lost a nail biter to the Class 5A Gladiators.
