Prep roundup: Hester leads Lakewood Ranch High past Sarasota Military in boys basketball action
Sam Hester drained five 3-pointers and scored a game-high 19 points as host Lakewood Ranch headed into Thanksgiving break on a high note, routing Sarasota Military, 77-38, in boys basketball action Tuesday night.
Evan Spiller added 16 points, including three 3-pointers, while Jack Kelley grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds to go with his eight points for Ranch (3-0) which returns to action next Tuesday at Manatee.
SARASOTA 54, SAINT STEPHEN'S 52 -- Despite the close loss, the Falcons saw a milestone take place when Jake Westberry scored his 1,000th point.
Westberty added eight rebounds, Jordan Edwards had 19 points, six rebounds and three assists, and Bobby Harrison added five points, three rebounds and three blocks for Saint Stephen's (1-3) which next plays Dec. 3 against Shorecrest Prep for its district opener at home.
NORTH PORT 53, CARDINAL MOONEY 52 -- Emmanual Lambright lit up the scoreboard with 26 points along with eight rebounds and five blocked shots in a narrow loss by the Cougars.
Nick Peacock added 12 points and six boards for Mooney (1-3) which visits Tampa Catholic on Tuesday.
