IMG standouts sign National Letters of Intent

BRADENTON -- While dozens of athletes from across Manatee County were signing National Letters of Intent last week, IMG Academy produced 30 signings all on its own.

The school, which brings athletes from around the world to Bradenton, held a ceremony Thursday honoring the athletes from six different sports who signed with Division I and II schools, most of whom are originally from outside Florida and many whom are from foreign countries.

Boys basketball

JONATHAN ISAAC -- The top-ranked player in Florida by the 247sports composite, Isaac signed with Florida State. The 6-foot-10 forward is originally from Naples and a potential one-and-done player for the Seminoles who could be a lottery pick in the 2017 NBA Draft.

Baseball

MICHAEL FELIZ -- The middle infielder from Englewood Cliffs, N.J., was a Perfect Game underclassman All-American each of the past two seasons and signed with Notre Dame on Thursday. Last year, Feliz batted .339 in 18 games.

ANTHONY HOLUBECKI -- A 6-foot-4 right-handed pitcher, Holubecki shined in five games for IMG this season and also signed with Notre Dame on Thursday. Holubecki, who started two games and pitched three in relief, held opponents to a

.169 batting average as a junior. He is originally from Elburn, Ill.

GREER HOLSTON -- Originally from Long Beach, Miss., Holston officially decided he'll return home for school when he plays for Mississippi. Holston, a right-handed pitcher, throws in the low 90s and could be a starter at some point for Ole Miss.

IAN McEACHERN -- The right-handed pitcher from Washington, D.C., signed with Baylor on Thursday after participating in the Perfect Game National Showcase in June in Fort Myers. He was one of five Ascenders to take part in the showcase along with Feliz and Holubecki.

JORDAN SCOTT -- An outfielder for IMG's post-grad team, Scott signed with West Virginia on Thursday. The outfielder from Conyers, Ga., was a Perfect Game All-American honorable mention last year and a second-teamer for the Southeast region.

NICK MORREALE -- The right-handed pitcher from Lake Elmo, Minn., was an honorable mention in the Central region last year and signed with Georgetown on Thursday. He'll play for IMG this spring.

GARRETT LEONARD -- The right-handed pitcher is the only Ascender who didn't sign with a Division I school Thursday. The Fort Mill, S.C., native will play for Division II Rollins College in Winter Park.

Girls basketball

SYDNEY MORANG -- The 6-foot-2 wing from Providence, N.J., is considered a three-star prospect by ESPN. Morang, who is also ranked 18th at her position, signed a NLI with Florida.

IHO LOPEZ -- The 6-foot-2 forward from Spain is also considered a three-star prospect by ESPN and competed for the U17 Spanish national team as a center in 2014. The Florida State signee averaged 5.6 points and six rebounds during the FIBA U17 World Championship.

ANNE DIOUF -- A 6-foot-3 post player from Senegal, Diouf is another three-star prospect, according to ESPN, and signed with Georgia Tech on Thursday. Diouf is No. 15 at her position.

Girls golf

MARRA BURTON -- The Louisville, Ky., native has had success on the junior tour this season, recording four top-15 finishes, including an 11th-place finish at the Innisbrook Easter Junior in Palm Harbor in March. She signed with Furman on Thursday.

EMILY CHU -- The Ontario native has played on the Canadian CN Links National Junior Girls tour and placed in the top four three times in four tournaments, including a win at the CJGA Easter Canadian Junior Championship in July. She signed with Columbia on Thursday

GABRIELLE CORREIA-- The golfer from Yorktown Heights, N.Y., played in two FCWT junior tournaments over the summer, and finished second and fourth. She officially signed with Tulane.

Boys tennis

THOMAS BRECHEMIER -- The French prospect signed with Kentucky on Thursday. The 19-year-old is 21-24 in his career in the ITF Pro Circuit main draw.

ROBERT LEVINE -- The five-star prospect from Bedford, N.Y., is the No. 7 recruit in the country and signed with Duke on Thursday. He is 4-1 as a singles player this year.

BJORN THOMSON -- At IMG by way of England, Thomson is not ranked as a prospect and signed with Texas Tech last week. He is 14-12 in singles this year.

BENJAMIN HANNESTAD -- Hannestad came all the way to Bradenton from Denmark and he will be staying nearby after signing with South Florida. He's 16-14 so far this year in singles and 23-12 in doubles.

DENNIS AFANASEV -- Originally from France, Afanasev signed with George Washington over offers from Columbia, Harvard, Princeton, Pennsylvania, Cornell, Wake Forest, Northwestern and Pennsylvania State. The five-star prospect, according to TennisRecruiting.net, is a top-100 player in the International Tennis Federation's rankings.

Girls tennis

INGRID NEEL -- The top-ranked recruit in the Class of 2016, Neel signed her NLI with Florida on Thursday. The five-star prospect from Rochester, Minn., has played the sixth toughest schedule in the country this year and is ranked No. 27 by the ITF.

NANDINI DAS -- The native of India signed with Florida State on Thursday and has shined against top competition this year despite being unranked by TennisRecruiting.net. Das is 5-1 against five-star prospects and 3-0 against four-stars.

TATE SCHROEDER -- Schroeder, who is the daughter of a Denver Broncos cheerleader, is a five-star prospect from Centennial, Colo., and officially signed with Missouri last week. She is considered the No. 46 player in the country by TennisRecruiting.net.

RAFAELLA BAQUERIZO -- The Ecuadorian, who is ranked 238th by the International Tennis Federation, signed with Purdue on Thursday. She has a 10-8 record in singles this year, but boasts a sparkling 18-3 doubles record.

HELENA KUPPIG -- The 18-year-old German is also unranked by TennisRecruiting.net but signed with Austin Peay on Thursday. She only played in one ITF event this year when she traveled to the Tunisia Junior.

Boys lacrosse

DRAKE PORTER -- The goaltender from Ontario enrolled at IMG this fall and officially signed with perennial power Syracuse on Thursday. Porter was invited to compete for a spot on the Canadian U19 national team in September.

NATE WILLIAMS -- The long-stick midfielder from Potomac, Md., will play for defending national champion Denver next fall. The Pioneers are a rising power in the sport with former Princeton head coach Billy Tierney at the helm.

MASSIMO BUCCI -- The midfielder and attack, who played at Ithaca before joining the Ascenders, will head to Georgetown next year. He was one of the best midfielders in talent-rich New York before coming to Florida.

BEN FRENCH -- French, whose father is the chairman of Team Canada Lacrosse, made his commitment to Vermont official Thursday by signing an NLI. The attack, who is originally from Canada, is the younger brother of Virginia attack Joe French

ROBERT HUDSON -- Another Canadian headed to Vermont, Hudson made his pledge official along with French on Thursday. Earlier this fall, the midfielder was invited to compete for a spot on the Canadian U19 team.

ANUAR ZARUR -- The Mexico native rounds out the list of foreign Ascenders set to join Vermont next year. The defenseman gives the Catamounts IMG signees at three different positions.
