Prep roundup | Lakewood Ranch High blanks Sarasota for 10th win of season
Faith Schyck booted two goals, while Nicole Wurster, Caitlyn Klein and Jules Agnew each added one goal as Lakewood Ranch earned its 10th win and eighth shutout of the season with a 5-0 conquest over Sarasota High.
Conli Schwartz had a pair of assists and Maria Gonzalez and Ally Boudreau each had one assist for host Ranch, while keeper Kerestyn Kesgiropoulos had a save.
Ranch (10-1, 3-1) hosts Manatee on Tuesday.
MANATEE 2, RIVERVIEW 0 -- Sydney Cornell and Meredith Roberts each scored a goal, while Roberts added an assist for the unbeaten Canes.
Madelyn Marcinko also had an assist and goalkeeper Ashleigh Parker recorded five saves for Manatee (8-0-1, 4-0).
BRADEN RIVER 4, CHARLOTTE 1 -- Francessca Aluise, Camie Lizardi, Karen Lyvers and Joanne Gigliotti each scored a goal for the Pirates in a district win.
Lyvers, Megan Wagner and Sofia Migmote each had an assist while keeper Mackenzie Moritz collected five saves for Braden River (6-5-1, 4-2), which hosts North Port on Tuesday.
BRADENTON CHRISTIAN 1, SARASOTA MILITARY 1 -- The Panthers picked up a Molly Setsma goal on Maddy Valadie's assist in the the first half, then held the lead until the final minute of the match, when SMI scored the equalizer.
Keeper Rayna Smith collected five saves, while midfielder Cat Calhoun also played a strong for BCS (9-3-1), which returns to action 5 p.m. Monday at Keswick Christian.
Boys soccer
SAINT STEPHEN'S 3, BRADEN RIVER 0 -- Antonio Colaccio had a goal and an assist as the Falcons recovered from a Tuesday loss by toppling the Pirates
Ben Whors and John Boyd also scored goals, while Alex Virgilio had an assist for Saint Stephen's (5-1-2).
Wrestling
SEVEN MUSTANGS ADVANCE -- Tim Dwyer, in the 138-pound weight class, won three times Friday to lead a group of seven Lakewood Ranch wrestlers who advanced unbeaten into the semifinals at the Cougar Invitational hosted by Plant City Durant. The Mustangs are in first place after one day in a 22-team field.
Jake Seaman (106 pounds), Hunter Reed (120), Dylan Cameron (132), Tyler Gilbert (152), Logan Bounds (182) and Chase Sharp (195) also advanced into today's semis.
Five others -- Elijah Miller (113 pounds), Zach Spade (126), Ryan Brown (145), Luis Tremblay-Vidal (170), Nate Lancaster (220) -- are still alive in wrestlebacks and remain in contention for a medal.
Boys basketball
LAKEWOOD RANCH 85, VENICE 54 -- Damien Gordon had 23 points, including three 3-pointers, and five rebounds as Ranch stayed unbeaten with a district win.
Devin Twenty had 17 points, Justin Muscara had seven points and 13 rebounds, and Jack Kelley had 10 points and nine rebounds for the Mustangs (6-0, 2-0).
BRADENTON CHRISTIAN 80, SARASOTA 75 -- Alex Telfair led the way with 25 points, Ryan Leunk added 23 and the visiting Panthers survived the Sailors' 17 total 3-pointers in a high-scoring win.
Justin Aracena (six points, 15 rebounds) and Vincent Rehfeldt (12 points) also played well for BCS (7-2), which returns to district play Saturday with a 6 p.m. home tip against Sarasota Christian.
GIBBS 68, SOUTHEAST 64 -- Tre Alexandrea led the way with 16 points and six assists, but the host Noles suffered their first district loss of the season.
Ronald Taylor scored 15 points and Corey Davis added 12 points for Souteast (5-3, 4-1), which returns to action Saturday at home against Palmetto, scheduled for a 2:30 p.m. tip.
TARPON SPRINGS 68, BAYSHORE 63 -- Dhysen Walls led the Bruins in a narrow loss with 21 points.
Bernard Brown added 13 points for Bayshore (2-7), which returns to action Tuesday at home against Sarasota Military.
OUT-OF-DOOR ACADEMY 62 CANTERBURY SCHOOL 57 -- Kolbie Ward scored 19 points and pulled down 6 rebounds, while Amad Brayboy chipped in with 12 points, seven steals and five rebounds for the visiting Thunder.
Nate Patrick scored 12 points for ODA.
NORTHSIDE 70, SAINT STEPHEN'S 54 -- Jordan Edwards led the Falcons with 14 points in a district road loss.
Destin Falls added 13 points and eight rebounds, Jordon Murrell had 10 points and three steals, and Nick Runde finished with eight points and 12 rebounds for Saints Stephen's (2-6, 1-3), which visits Bradenton Christian next Friday.
CARDINAL MOONEY 53, CLEARWATER CENTRAL CATHOLIC 41 -- Nick Peacock scored 11 points with 10 rebounds and four assists; and Emmanuel Lambright added a team-high 17 points with six rebounds for the host Cougars.
Cardinal Mooney (3-6, 2-4) tips off next at 7 p.m. Thursday at home against Venice.
