Prep roundup | Palmetto edges Braden River with two late goals in boys soccer

The Tigers scored both goals in the last 10 minutes of Tuesday's match with the Pirates. Candido Calvillo scored off an assist from Gilberto Caballero, who tallied the second goal with two minutes remaining off Tynon Dolan's assist to ice the victory. It was the first clean sheet recorded for freshman goalkeeper Daniel Sanchez. Palmetto is 4-4 overall and 2-2 in Class 4A-District 11. The Tigers host Venice on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.

TAMPA BERKELEY PREP 6, OUT-OF-DOOR ACADEMY 1 -- The host Thunder lost in non-district action.

Girls soccer

BRADENTON CHRISTIAN 8, IMAGINE NORTH PORT 0 -- On Senior Night, the Panthers (7-2 overall, 4-2 district) ran roughshod over visiting North Port Imagine School. Maddie Jackson, a junior, celebrated her birthday with a hat trick and two assists. Maddy Allen contributed the other hat trick, while chipping in two assists. And senior Maddy Valadie scored the last goal after contributing three assists. An own goal off a corner from Allen also added up to the mercy-rule shortened victory for BCS. There were 15 minutes remaining when the match was stopped. Goalkeeper Rayna Smith tallied six saves for the clean sheet. BCS continues district play Thursday at Saint Stephen's.

Boys basketball

TAMPA CATHOLIC 72, CARDINAL MOONEY 60 -- Richard Krupa led the Cougars with 22 points, but Cardinal Mooney fell to Tampa Catholic in Tuesday's district game. Emmanuel Lambright (14 points, three assists, four rebounds), Nick Peacock (13 points, seven rebounds, three assists) and Matteo Whelton (seven points, seven rebounds, five assists) chipped in, too. Mooney is 1-4 overall and 0-2 in the district. The Cougars travel to Sarasota Military Academy on Friday for their next game.

BRADENTON CHRISTIAN 79, CANTERBURY 24 -- Justin Aracena scored 14 points and grabbed 14 rebounds as the visiting Panthers rolled in a district contest. J.T. Noellert and Ryan Leunk each scored 15 points, while Alex Telfair added 12 for the Panthers (4-2, 2-0) who return to action Thursday at Gulf Coast HEAT.

SOUTHEAST 84, LAKEWOOD 56 -- Southeast blew past St. Petersburg Lakewood with Tre Alexendrea (27 points), Ronald Taylor (16 points), Alex Taylor (16 points, eight rebounds) and Corey Davis (13 points) leading the charge. The Seminoles stayed unbeaten in Class 5A-District 11 with the win. The Noles (3-2 overall, 2-0 district) head to Tarpon Springs on Friday for their next game.

ST. PETERSBURG GIBBS 62, BAYSHORE 41 -- The Bruins fell on Tuesday, but received double-digit games from Jaylen Pauley (14 points) and Vinny Dessin (12 points). Bayshore is 1-2 on the season.

Girls basketball

SOUTHEAST 54, BAYSHORE 20 -- The visiting Seminoles rolled past the host Bruins in Class 5A-District 11 action. Southeast's Breyonna Reed had a game-high 12 points, while Shauntavia Green (10 points) and Johnelle Clark (eight points and eight rebounds) contributed as the trio played just two quarters Tuesday. Southeast improved to 7-1 overall (3-0 in district). Bayshore dropped to 2-4 (2-1 in district) and were led by JoJo Muldoon's five points. Southeast travels to Tarpon Springs for a district game at 6 p.m. Friday.

BRADENTON CHRISTIAN 56, ST. PETERSBURG CANTERBURY 29 -- The visiting Panthers evened their district record at 1-1 behind Amy Van Ryn (13 points, six steals) and Jessica Jackson (10 points and eight rebounds). BCS is 3-2 overall, and heads to Tampa Cambridge on Saturday.

LAKEWOOD RANCH 56, PALMETTO 41 -- The host Mustangs received double-digit scoring games from Aleah Robinson (15 points) and Kailyn Scully (12 points) to get past Class 7A-District 11 rival Palmetto on Tuesday. The Mustangs (5-2 overall, 1-0 district) host Sarasota on Thursday. Palmetto's leading scorer was Tina Stephens (17 points), while Taylor Rozier (13 points) also tallied a double-figure scoring game.
