State swimming: Baffico, Freed score highest at 1A meet
STUART -- Out-of-Door Academy's Martin Baffico and Bradenton Christian's Anna Freed scored highest among Manatee County swimmers Friday in the Class 1A state swimming championship meet at the Sailfish Splashpark Aquatic Athletics Center.
Baffico took seventh place in the 100 butterfly and 11th in the 100 backstroke for the Thunder, while Freed was seventh in the 100 backstroke and 12th in the 200 IM for the Panthers.
Other county swimmers to score at state were Marshall Webster and Sam McDonald of Saint Stephen's. Webster finished 11th in 500 freestyle, while McDonald was 8th in the 1-meter dive. Bradenton Christian's Connor Kesten finished 13th in the 200 IM.
Out-of-Door finished 25th out of the 41 teams that scored in the boys meet, while Saint Stephen's tied for 27th and BCS finished 39th.
In the girls meet, BCS finished 26th of 36.
National power Bolles dominated both meets.
Cardinal Mooney finished 12th on the boys side led by Matt Garcia, who was second in the 100 back and fourth in the 200 free. The Cougars' Matt Nutter was fifth in the 100 free and sixth in the 200 free.
The Mooney girls (27th overall) were led by Jilli Santiago, who was fifth in the 100 free and 15th in the 50 free.
