Braden River boys tennis earns first state berth since 2009

Braden River's boys tennis team is heading to next week's Class 3A state tournament.

The Pirates booked the program's first state appearance since 2009 with a 4-1 victory Thursday against Tampa Freedom at Braden River High School.

Xavier Muzquiz captured the decisive victory when he defeated Freedom's Zach Snow, 6-4, 7-5, in the No. 4 singles match.

Other match winners for Braden River: David Ojeda (No. 1 singles), Race Arrande (No. 2) and Sebastian Bucarion (No. 3).

The team is rounded out by No. 5 singles player Colson Engelberger, who fell in straight sets.

The 3A state tournament begins Wednesday at Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs.
