Tim Tebow coming to Bradenton
BRADENTON -- Former NFL quarterback and Heisman Trophy winner Tim Tebow is coming to Bradenton to help the Salvation Army fund a ministry for the homeless.
Tebow, who became known for his on-field displays of his Christian beliefs while playing for the Denver Broncos and other professional football teams, will be the guest of honor at the Salvation Army of Manatee County's "2015 Evening of Hope" event May 15 at Bayside Community Church.
Tebow will speak in support of the charity's efforts to raise funds for its local homeless ministry.
Established in 2014, the "Evening of Hope" event is an opportunity for the Salvation Army to generate financial contributions for its local homeless-prevention services. Manatee County regional salvation coordinator, Major Dwayne Durham, said Tebow, an outspoken Christian advocate, is expected to speak on his faith both on and off the field.
"We feel blessed to be able to partner with such well know advocates like Tim Tebow," Durham said.
After being cut from his last professional team, the New England Patriots, in 2013, Tebow began doing college football commentary for ESPN.
