Conversational Hebrew Classes
Temple Emanu-El, 151 McIntosh Road in Sarasota, announces two levels of Hebrew Conversation classes – one welcoming newcomers to the language, one designed for those with some background speaking Hebrew. “Hebrew Conversation for Beginners Level One,” begins continues from 10-11 a.m. on Sundays throughout October, as well as on Nov. 12, 19 and Dec. 3. For those who have completed Level 1 – or who have some background in Hebrew – Temple Emanu-El also offers “Hebrew Conversation for Beginners Level Two.” This class begins 9:30 a.m. Oct. 17 and will be held every Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. through Dec. 5. All are welcome to learn and practice Hebrew in this educational, supportive, and friendly environment. The cost for the classes is $50 for Temple Emanu-El members and $60 for guests. Pumpkin patch

In concert
On Oct. 15 at 8:30 a.m. in the Roser Memorial Chapel and 10 a.m. in the Roser Sanctuary the church welcomes guest cellist Isaac Mingus to the platform. Mingus is a cellist and bassist in the Sarasota/Bradenton area. He performs locally in numerous jazz ensembles, the Charlotte Symphony and the Venice Symphony. Isaac will provide the Prelude and Offertory music. During the 10 a.m. service soloist, JoAnne Moyer, will sing with the Chancel Choir accompanied by Isaac on cello and Joy Chatzistamatis on the violin. Community celebration
A celebration commemorating the 200th anniversary of the birth of Baha’u’llah (Baa ha oollah) the Founder and central figure of the Baha’i (baa ha i) Faith, is 5:30-8:30 p.m. Oct. 21 at the Robert L Taylor Community Center Complex, 1845 34 St., Sarasota. “Book of Jonah”
The Adult Education Committee of Temple Emanu-El, 151 McIntosh Road, Sarasota, invites the community to a two-part adult learning series about the biblical Book of Jonah at 7 p.m. Oct. 18 and 25. Taught by Rabbi Michael Shefrin, this course on one of the best-known biblical stories of all time will engage the text’s dynamic characters, timeless themes, and theological brilliance. A faith-based Addiction & Recovery Outreach Program for men and women who struggle with addictions will be held 7-9 p.m. Fridays in the back of Bible Baptist Church, Room 201, 2113 Morgan Johnson Road, Bradenton, as our RU (Reformers Unanimous) Chapter K0455 meets. RU offers Biblical solutions that can help break the chains of addiction and bondage through the Lord Jesus Christ. Worship services, which follow at 6 p.m., are briefer and more informal than in the fall months, with familiar prayers and spirited music. The celebration continues after services end, as attendees join together to share Shabbat dinner in local restaurants. Social Action Committee, food drive, place nonperishable boxed and canned foods in a marked bin in the Temple lobby during business hours and before and after Shabbat worship services.
