‘What’s the rush?’

The Al Katz Center, 5710 Cortez Road, Bradenton, will present “What’s the rush? Rosh Hashonah” at 11 a.m. Sept. 1, a presentation exploring the coming Jewish New Year. Learn how to share this special time of year with your family — both old and young — and how to reap the happiness that is Divinely intended for us during this Holy Season. Babyccino

With activities such as bubble play, soap making, challah baking, sing-a-long parachute and more, Babyccino was a real hit in its first year at Chabad of Bradenton & Lakewood Ranch. Chabad is bringing the program back to the community for its second year. Babucinno provides a chic meet for mod moms and their tots and features centers for creative art and expression, Judaic discovery, music and movement, sensory stimulation, dramatic play, parallel play, and social interaction. Classes are facilitated by Chanie Bukiet and open to babies and toddles from age 0-3. The classes will take place 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. Sundays beginning Sept. 10 at The Chabad Houseat, 5712 Lorraine Road, Bradenton. Lifelong Learning Showcase

The SunCoast Alliance for Lifelong Learning (SCALL), a non-profit organization committed to promoting and enhancing the region’s lifelong learning opportunities, presents the third annual Lifelong Learning Showcase, 8:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Sept. 13 at Temple Beth Sholom, 1050 S. Tuttle Ave., Bldg. 1, Sarasota. The showcase, which is also a fundraiser for SCALL, provides a sampling of the region’s diversity of lifelong learning opportunities. Participants will hear experts talk about history, literature, health, science, philosophy, and more. The event includes 24-course sessions of which participants may choose four to attend. Tickets are $79 and include morning refreshments, lunch and four showcase sessions. Tickets are limited to the first 225 registrants due to space limitations. Registration opens Aug. 7. Special collection

During August, the Outreach Team of Living Lord Lutheran Church, 11107 Palmbrush Trail, Lakewood Ranch, will be collecting hygiene items for the needy in our area. These donations go directly to Our Daily Bread in Bradenton for distribution. We need any small sample size items picked up while traveling or they may be purchased at drug, dollar, or discount stores. Suggestions are shampoo, soap, toothpaste, toothbrush, combs, shaving creme, deodorant, etc. Drop them off at the church 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday through Friday or 8 a.m.-noon Sunday. 941-753-9365

Addiction Recovery sessions

A faith-based Addiction & Recovery Outreach Program for men and women who struggle with addictions will be held 7-9 p.m. Fridays in the back of Bible Baptist Church, Room 201, 2113 Morgan Johnson Road, Bradenton, as our RU (Reformers Unanimous) Chapter K0455 meets. RU offers Biblical solutions that can help break the chains of addiction and bondage through the Lord Jesus Christ. There is no cost to those who attend, and we are here to assist and encourage those who want change in their lives.

Worship services, which follow at 6 p.m., are briefer and more informal than in the fall months, with familiar prayers and spirited music. The celebration continues after services end, as attendees join together to share Shabbat dinner in local restaurants. Social Action Committee, food drive, place nonperishable boxed and canned foods in a marked bin in the Temple lobby during business hours and before and after Shabbat worship services.
