Tidus Joins 'Dissidia Duellum Final Fantasy' Today, But There's a Catch

Dissidia Duellum Final Fantasy has been making waves within both the Final Fantasy and mobile game spaces. Now that the previous season has ended, a new one begins, and one of the most popular protagonists of the long-running series is joining the battle, but there is a catch to his inclusion.

Available today with the new season, Dreams and Reality, Tidus, the main protagonist of Final Fantasy 10, joins the roster as a limited-time character. He will only be available to claim and keep permanently from now until July 28 at the season's end. After that, like Sephiroth before him, he will no longer be available to earn.

Square Enix has stated that limited-time characters may return in the future, but as of this morning's update, Sephiroth is no longer available.

Tidus has two outfits, like most characters in the game: a modern style and a classic style based on his original appearance. There are also multiple recolors for the skin.

Additionally, an event is currently underway that increases the chance of drawing abilities for Tidus using draw tickets.

Tidus is earnable for free through the game's season pass, character draw, or as a guaranteed draw with five character draw tickets. Due to the game's nature as a mobile gacha game, it will take a decent amount of grinding online matches to unlock him for free. Fans may also purchase the season pass with real-world money to unlock him faster.

Tidus's unique abilities are called Spiral Cut, Charge & Assault, Slice and Dice, and Blitz Ace, all references to his overdrives from Final Fantasy 10. His unique skill is Quick Hit, which allows him to use a quick dash attack.

Overall, he is an agile fighter focused on using his melee abilities and then getting a recharge on them quickly with his passive skill.

A new stage based on Final Fantasy 10's Zanarkand, called Corrosion: Zanarkand, is also now available in the game.

Dissidia Duellum Final Fantasy is available now for iOS and Android and is a free-to-play title.
