The Foundation for Dreams is excited to kick off our 2017 Summer Dream Oaks Camp Program for children with special needs and chronic illnesses ages 7-17. The program will feature weekly day and residential sessions running through July 28. June 12-July 28. Dream Oaks Camp program creates the chance for children to recognize others as individuals, not by their disabilities. Children can learn new skills and take on many new challenges and activities are focused on the child’s abilities rather than their limitations. Daily adventures include arts and crafts, dance movement, yoga, canoeing, boat rides, nature studies, therapeutic horseback riding and many other adaptive camping activities and experiences. Renaissance on 9th will host the following events and classes:

The UF/IFAS Extension Manatee County will offer three free educational series to help improve relationships. SMART Couples Florida classes are:

▪ “Elevate,” a relationship enhancing workshop designed to help couples improve communication skills, 6-8:30 p.m. June 13 and June 27.

▪ “Before You Tie The Know,” a premarital workshop for couples, 6-8:30 p.m. June 14, June 21 and June 28.

▪ “Smart Steps,” a step family workshop designed to help strengthen relationships of couples and their children, including non-custodial parents, 6-8:30 p.m. June 15, June 22 and June 29.

The Players Centre for Performing Arts will hold auditions at 838 N. Tamiami Trail, Sarasota, for their 2017-18 Broadway Series season shows, and The Players New Play Festival. Auditions for The Players New Play Festival is 6-7:45 p.m. June 26, and the Broadway Season auditions for “The Will Rogers Follies,” “Moon Over Buffalo,” and “The 1940s Radio Hour,” are 10 a.m.-3:45 p.m. July 29. The Palmetto Youth Center will host author/educator Vincent Taylor, along with his mascot, “Cornbread” 1-3 p.m. June 16 at 501 17th St. W., Palmetto, to commemorate the the Juneteenth Independence Day, June 19, 1865 announcement of the abolition of slavery in Texas and more generally the emancipation of African-American slaves throughout the Confederate South.. The fourth annual MASHterpieces art exhibition, an eclectic and entertaining art exhibition of artwork created using second-hand goods, featuring 10 area businesses competing against each other to showcase their creativity and their green business practices. The public can bid on the artwork and, additionally, over the course of the exhibition which runs through June 30, visitors can vote, for a $1 donation, for their favorite artwork.
