Rotarians Against Hunger package 50,000 meals in Bradenton
BRADENTON -- More than 200 members of the Rotary Club of Bradenton and community volunteers packaged 50,000 meals in less than 3 hours April 9 for the annual Rotarians Against Hunger food packing and distribution program. Meals will be distributed to families in need and homeless in the Manatee County community
"Hunger is curable," said Rotary Club of Bradenton President Dennise Berger. "We look forward to this event every year. We appreciate that so community members from ROTC, Girls Scouts, 4H, and St. Stephen's Episcopal School Interact Club, take time out to join us and to help our community fight hunger."
Club Member, Pete Blews said bulk dried food in huge containers is broken down, ingredients mixed and meals packaged.
"We set up assembly lines and begin measuring, weighing, mixing, packaging, sealing and boxing," Blews said. "We don't stop till we meet our goal."
Financing came from The Bradenton Rotary Foundation. Meals will be distributed by the Salvation Army.
The Rotary Club of Bradenton, was founded in 1926 as part of Rotary International, a global organization of leaders and volunteers dedicated to tackling the world's most pressing humanitarian challenges.

The Bradenton Rotary Club has:
Provided dictionaries to local third-graders.
Sponsored exchange students.
Provided leadership training and scholarships for high school students.
Participated in Project Teach.
Volunteered at organizations such as Learn to Fish and Boys and Girls Club.
Provided funding for Feeding Empty Tummies, Salvation Army, Boys and Girls Club, Hope Family, Alzheimer Research and Shelter Box.
Packaged meals for local food banks.
The club meets at noon each Monday at Pier 22 Restaurant, 1200 First Ave., Bradenton.
