Prep baseball: Saint Stephen's Falcons, Manatee Hurricanes post wins
SARASOTA -- SAINT STEPHENS 10 at SARASOTA CHRISTIAN (5) 0 -- Nick Runde was 2 for 3 at the plate and earned his sixth win on the mound for the season as the visiting Falcons shut out the Sarasota Christian Blazers 10-0 in a game shortened by five innings by the mercy rule.
Runde pitched four shutout innings, allowing four hits and striking out four. Jake Westberry 3 for 4, and Mike Madigan was 2 for 4 for the Falcons (13-10).
ELSEWHERE -- The host Manatee Hurricanes defeated Braden River 11-1 in game shortened to six innings by the mercy rule. Jordan Ely threw a complete game and earned the win, allowing seven hits, one walk, one run and fanning seven.
Leading the offense were Chris Lehman (3 for 4, double, four RBIs) and Jamar Smith and James Cuccio, who both were 2 for 3 with two RBIs.
