Rep. Vern Buchanan's InstaPoll limits answers
As is his practice, Congressman Vern Buchanan sent out his usual InstaPoll via email to "ask" his constituents what they think on a certain subject in the form of a multiple choice "check the box" response form.
The latest was asking his constituents' opinions on government spendintg: Is bigger government with more services and higher taxes preferred over smaller government with fewer services and lower taxes?
I could not answer the question as posed because, as usual, the answers were geared toward the response he is apparently looking for.
I could only write an email response that government should supply more services to its citizens who need them. The ones who should be paying higher taxes that might be necessary are the corporations and wealthy individuals who should be paying THEIR FAIR SHARE in taxes.
To deny services to those who need them (I have several friends in that category) because the government cannot fund them is simply a cop out; so what if our defense budget is higher than the next 20 nations combined? If Congress would do its job and make the tax burden more equitable, things would be a whole lot better for all of us.
After all, SCOTUS, in the Citizens United ruling, determined that corporations are people. I am a person; I pay more than my fair share of taxes. Why can't corporations?
