Lakewood Ranch girls rap Sarsota in softball

Denali Schappacher went 3 for 5, including a walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth inning to lift host Lakewood Ranch to a 3-2 victory against Sarasota in girls softball Tuesday.

Schappacher's single scored courtesy runner Katie Stincer from third, making a winner out of pitcher Logan Newton, who went the distance and struck out six.

The Mustangs (8-1, 2-0 Class 8A, District 8) return to action Thursday at home against Palmetto.

Baseball

Bayshore 9, Southeast 6 -- Yiesel Ur went 4 for 4, Orion Roby finished with three hits and DJ McCarty went 2 for 3, including a home run and a double to lead Bayshore (3-4, 1-1 Class 5A, District 11), which returns to action Thursday at IMG. Ryan Gagliano (1-0) was the winning pitcher, and Jared Richardson earned his second save.

Girls tennis

Manatee 7, Palmetto 0 -- Grayson Hall and Allison Hlavac swept their singles matches to lead Manatee (3-1) at King Middle School. Perri Howard lost one game in her victory. Manatee returns to action Thursday at Sarasota.
