Manatee High School National Honor Society gives back
BRADENTON -- The Manatee High School National Honor Society spent the last week of school shopping for families in need.
The 21 seniors in the National Honor Society -- inclusion is based on scholarship, leadership, service and character -- adopted three needy families from the school and had them fill a list of things they might need for Christmas.
"When you get a list back that includes toiletries and things like socks and shoes, it really hits home," adviser Bryan Kincannon said in an email.
The students went out and bought over 100 gifts including skateboards, fishing poles, hoodies, books, movies and grocery gift cards to help out fellow students in need. The students then had a "wrap party" for all the gifts. The students learned a valuable life lesson about how giving is better than receiving and how great it feels to help other, Kincannon said.
