He may not be a household name, but people who follow Southern rock and jam bands all revel in the music of Warren Haynes.

Haynes has been a member of the Allman Brothers Band, the Dickey Betts Band, Phil Lesh & Friends and Gov't Mule (which he co-founded). He's performed on stage or recorded with the Dave Matthews Band, David Allan Coe, Les Claypool and even William Shatner.

He also has six albums under his own name, including some credited to the Warren Haynes band.

Haynes will be performing Friday at Jannus Live, an outdoor venue in downtown St. Petersburg.

Haynes first hit the big time with Coe's band. Betts recruited him for his own bands, and then Haynes became the lead guitarist and one of the singers in the Allman Brothers Band when that group reunited in 1993. Haynes and Allman's bassist Allen Woody formed Gov't Mule as a side project in 1995, and its has become on of the biggest bands on jam band scene. Haynes is still an active member of both the Allman Brothers Band and Gov't Mule. Govt' Mule has released two albums this year -- "Dark Side of the Mule" and "Sco-Mule" -- so it's a safe bet that Haynes will perform some songs from those albums at his St. Petersburg show.

Details: 7 p.m. Oct. 23, Jannus Live, 200 First Ave. N., St. Petersburg. Tickets: $26.50. Information: 727-565-0550, jannuslive.com.
