2 Lakewood Ranch teens killed in one-car crash

LAKEWOOD RANCH -- Two Lakewood Ranch teenagers were killed after crashing into a tree at 5:05 a.m. Saturday, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Brendan Shreve, 17, and Jared Duran, 15, were pronounced dead at the scene, according to FHP.

A 2012 Mercedes-Benz C350 driven by Shreve was southbound on Lakewood Ranch Boulevard north of Clubhouse Drive failed to negotiate a right curve, struck the raised center median curb and struck a tree in the median, according to FHP.

The rear section of the vehicle separated from the main body at impact. The front section traveled into the northbound lanes of Lakewood Ranch Boulevard. The rear section traveled into the southbound lanes of Lakewood Ranch Boulevard.

The investigation is ongoing, however, speed is a possible factor in the crash, according to FHP.

Test results are pending whether alcohol was a factor, FHP reported.
