Manatee County Libraries to host Literacy Expo

MANATEE -- In an effort to increase awareness of the early literacy and grade-level reading programs available free at Manatee County Public Libraries, the Central Library will be hosting a Literacy Expo on Monday.

Working in conjunction with the Manatee County Schools Grade Level Reading Department, Manatee County Public Libraries hope to make it easier for parents, guardians and educators to find out how the library can help them engage with their children to enhance reading success, according to officials.

Most of the programs and resources that will be showcased at the Literacy Expo Monday, 5-7 p.m. are available at each of the six Manatee libraries.

To help keep children occupied during this event, South Florida Museum will be on hand to present "Megalodons, Mammoths & Mastodons." Kids can investigate bones, teeth and shells and learn what it takes to become a fossil hunter.

Other organizations that plan to be in attendance include the Early Learning Coalition, Whole Child Manatee and Manatee County Rural Health Services.

There will be a raffle for Feld Entertainment tickets and other prizes, and free refreshments will be provided.

Central Library is located at 1301 Barcarrota Blvd. West, Bradenton, FL 34205, and the event will take place in the auditorium. Call 941-748-5555 for more information.
