Here’s a dog tale with a happy ending in Florida: A Chihuahua that somehow managed to fall into a storm drain in Clair Mel City, near Tampa, was rescued on Sunday.

On its Facebook page, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office showed pictures of a deputy holding the soaking wet white dog, wrapped up in a blanket.

The post says the animal tumbled into a drain in a residential area. Hillsborough County Public Works helped in the team effort to pry open the drain and pluck out the adorable furball.

Once free, the dog was fed and warmed up.

“The pup is doing OK now,” said the release, adding that it was taken to an area animal hospital. The owner is unknown, as is the way the fella got in there in the first place.

This isn’t the first time we’ve heard of incidents involving animals stuck inside storm drains. Most recently, in September, crews managed to flush out an alligator from one in the Westchester area of Miami. The reptile had been wedged underground for five days.

And unbelievably, back in March, a 43-year-old naked woman who had been missing for three weeks was discovered trapped inside a drain just a few feet away from a busy Delray Beach thoroughfare. A passerby heard her screams for help.

The woman told Delray Beach police she went for a swim in a canal and got lost in a series of tunnels.
