‘Dangerously close’: Watch an off-duty cop pull boy away from shark in Florida

An off-duty Florida police officer sprang into action — in the ocean.

According to a Facebook post from Cocoa Beach Fire Rescue, Cocoa Beach Police Officer Adrian Kosicki was walking on the beach with his wife last Thursday evening when they noticed a commotion.

Video shot by a bystander shows a boy on his board riding a wave and someone screaming, “Hey, buddy!” Another screams, “Shark!”

And there it is, mere feet away, a small shark approaching him. As the fish zeroes in, Kosicki grabs the child and drags him to safety.

“Adrian made the decision to quickly enter the water and pull the boy from the surf as the shark began to get dangerously close, within only a couple of feet at its nearest distance,” said the agency’s post with the caption “Officer pulls boy from close encounter with shark.”

The shark type is unclear.

“Thanks to Adrian, we’ll never know what that shark’s intentions were, and that little boy will forever have a pretty cool story to tell,” police said. ‘Great job!’”
