Motorcyclist killed in alcohol-related crash on U.S. 301 in Parrish, FHP says

A motorcyclist was killed in a crash that is blocked all lanes of traffic on U.S. 301 at Rutland Road in Parrish for several hours on Thursday, according to Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred around 5:25 p.m. on Thursday.

Troopers say that Kenneth S. Bauer, a 54-year-old man from Palmetto, was riding north in the left lane of U.S. 301 on his Harley Davidson motorcycle.

A 47-year-old Palmetto man driving a Dodge Ram was stopped in the left turn lane of Rutland Road facing west. He proceeded to turn onto U.S. 301, directly into Bauer’s path.

Bauer’s motorcycle then collided with the left side of the truck.

The motorcycle came to a final rest in the intersection. Bauer was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the truck came to a controlled stop along U.S. 301 and was uninjured. Troopers say he was under the influence of alcohol, and he faces charges of DUI causing death, DUI causing property damage and violation of right of way.

Emergency vehicles were in the roadway for several hours on Thursday night and all northbound and southbound lanes of U.S. 301 remained closed at the intersection.

All lanes of traffic reopened late Thursday.
