‘A great opportunity.’ Bradenton-area sports bar plans big new restaurant
A popular local sports bar is bringing its burgers, beer and game day fun to a new part of Manatee County.
Ed’s Tavern plans to open its third location in the Gateway Commons shopping plaza off Buffalo Road, near Moccasin Wallow Road and Interstate 75, co-owner Albert Myara said.
It follows the original Ed’s Tavern off Lakewood Ranch’s Main Street and the second restaurant off State Road 64 East.
It will also be the biggest, Myara said. The restaurant, which will neighbor a new bealls clothing store, will occupy about 5,500 square feet.
A special feature of the new Ed’s Tavern will be a private party and event room equipped with a sports simulator, Myara said.
“You can play golf, you can play football, you can play dodge ball, kick field goals,” Myara said. “So it’d be great for either a kids party or for adults that want to (do) luncheons there or bring their whole team in there for team building.”
Ed’s Tavern offers burgers, beer, sports and more
The brand, which has been a Lakewood Ranch staple since 2009, features a menu with nine different burger styles, wraps, sandwiches, flatbreads, wings, salads and entrees such as barbecue brisket and buttermilk chicken tenders.
Beer and cider offerings come on draft or in bottles and cans and include craft, domestic and imported options.
And like the other two Ed’s Tavern locations, the new restaurant will feature TVs, trivia nights and weekly events.
Myara, with Adam Myara and Bob Bender, bought Ed’s Tavern in 2014 from founder John Breiner, the Herald previously reported.
In April 2024, they opened their second location at 1305 108th St. E., Bradenton, in the Warner Crossing shopping center.
Parrish growth boom ‘a great opportunity,’ owner says
The growing development in Parrish and Palmetto along Moccasin Wallow Road was a key driver in selecting the Gateway Commons plaza for a third Ed’s Tavern restaurant, Myara said.
“It’s a normal progression to keep going up,” Myara said. “And that’s where the growth is, up in Parrish. There’s so much growth. Across from it I think there’s going to be a hospital, there’s a water park being built less than a mile down the road, thousands of homes. It’s a great opportunity for us.”
Myara said they are targeting a September opening date — just in time for football season.
