McGrath’s Kitchen & Cocktails, 8110 Lakewood Main St., Lakewood Ranch, will close Friday.

The Irish-themed restaurant announced the closing on social media. The restaurant’s statement said the owners will shift focus to their other local restaurant brand, Ed’s Tavern.

In late 2020, Bruce Mahnke opened McGrath’s, naming it after his grandmother. The restaurant serves traditional Irish dishes and offers dozens of Irish whiskeys and various draft beers.

Mahnke is also a partner in Ed’s Tavern. The sports bar and restaurant has locations at 1305 108th St. E., Bradenton and 10719 Rodeo Drive, Lakewood Ranch.

Will a new restaurant replace McGrath’s in Lakewood Ranch?

McGrath’s social media statement thanked their customers and employees. There was also a hint at what could replace the restaurant.

“Be on the lookout for a new, exciting dining experience in the coming months to take over the space,” the statement said.

Phone calls and messages seeking comment were not immediately returned.

Before it was home to McGrath’s, claimed the Lakewood Ranch restaurant space was home to McAllister’s, a Scottish-themed restaurant, from 2006 to 2020. McAllister’s was one of the first businesses on Lakewood Ranch’s Main Street when it opened, the Herald previously reported.

McGrath’s opens daily at 11 a.m. and closes at 10 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday. The restaurant will close for good at 11 p.m. on Friday.
