Popular Bradenton pizzeria reopens in new location. ‘Everything is homemade.’
A popular Bradenton pizzeria is slinging its hand-tossed pies in a new location, and locals are eating it up.
In March, Godson’s Pizzeria announced it was relocating to 3306 Manatee Ave. W. The restaurant’s previous location on Cortez Road served customers for the last time on April 13.
“They’ve been very supportive,” owner Philip Chaltis said. “They like that we can interact with them more than when we had the bigger restaurant on Cortez Road and we were all busy and everything was so spread out. Where here, they’re eating right outside ... by the counter.”
Chaltis credits his father Bill and longtime cook Ashton Hanes for the success of the restaurant after its launch in 2022. But he said many of Godson’s loyal patrons lived closer to the Manatee River and Northwest Bradenton.
“When we had the opportunity to move over here, it was just, ‘Hey, let’s take the chance,’” Chaltis said.
Godson’s reopened off of Manatee Avenue in September in the West Avenue Shops plaza next to Trinity United Methodist Church.
Godson’s brings pizza and pasta to West Bradenton
The signature at Godson’s is pizza made with care.
“What makes us special here is just everything is homemade,” Chaltis said.
That includes sauce and dough made by hand.
The restaurant’s pizza sauce was developed a few years ago, and it’s been tweaked slightly to get it just right, Chaltis said.
“We added flavor (and) I have a cook here that is Italian ... he added his own little twist to it, and it’s kind of turned into our signature sauce here,” Chaltis said.
Specialty pies include meat lovers, veggie, barbecue chicken, buffalo chicken, white, margherita and chicken bacon ranch.
Customers can also choose from stromboli, calzone, various pastas, sandwiches, wraps and salads.
While they haven’t added dessert to the menu yet, Chaltis said neighboring businesses like the Shake Pit and Sweetberries are great options for families to grab a sweet treat after dinner.
“It’s kind of starting to reignite that everybody knows everybody, where they’re going, that hometown family-owned businesses getting supported by the locals,” Chaltis said.
