Bulgogi nachos and walleye? New Lakewood Ranch restaurant has comfort food with a twist
It’s all about the comfort food at Remy’s on Main, which opened Monday for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Bringing the new eatery to 8138 Lakewood Ranch Main St. are restaurant veterans Larry and Barbara Remington, who sold their business interests in Michigan two years ago, and moved to the Bradenton area.
There are lots of comfort food items on the menu, ranging from burgers and wraps to fish and chips, spaghetti and meatballs, fried chicken sandwiches, Cubans, salads and more.
There are also offerings that, while growing in popularity in the United States, may be not as familiar to some.
For example, among the breakfast offerings — omelettes, buttermilk pancakes, and waffles — is Korean/Bulgogi Benedict. For those who haven’t tried it, bulgogi is Korean barbecue.
Bulgogi also turns up in Remy’s nachos. Among the other starters are calamari, barbecue chicken potato skins and pot stickers.
The entree menu is loaded with comfort food: New York strip, short rib dinner, one-half slab of ribs, shrimp scampi pasta and much more.
Something a little different for the Bradenton area is the walleye dinner, lightly battered and deep fried or pan fried with your choice of two sides for $18.
Walleye, a freshwater fish native to Canada and the northern United States, but also found in parts of the South, was a favorite among the Remingtons’ diners in Michigan, and they think Florida diners will like it, too.
“I like fish and I could eat walleye every day,” Larry Remington said.
Also among his favorites are the fish and chips, made with a filet of of fried wild-caught cod from Iceland, served with French fries and cole slaw, for $16, and the freshly-made hamburgers, starting at $11.
Remy’s on Main is very much a family business, with a son and a son-in-law, both 20-year restaurant veterans, sharing the chef duties in the kitchen.
Ken Swan, a commercial Realtor with Wagner Commercial, also located on Lakewood Ranch Main Street, had been anticipating the opening of Remy’s on Main, and was the first customer through the door on Monday.
He ordered the Classic Breakfast for $10, which included two large eggs, hash browns, choice of sausage, ham or bacon served with toast and jelly.
“It was great. I think they will do very well here,” Swan said.
Initially, the restaurant is open 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., but will soon be expanding its hours to 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., seven days a week.
Remy’s on Main has seating for 110 inside and 40 outside. The restaurant offers a full bar and takeout.
