Billy Joel schedules Tampa concert
Two years ago, Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn held a major press conference to announce that Billy Joel had scheduled a concert at Amalie Arena (which was called the Tampa Bay Times Forum at the time).
This time, there's much less hoopla. Almost none, in fact. The announcement that Billy Joel has scheduled a Tampa concert came Thursday in an emailed press release with a quote from Elmer Straub, the arena's vice president of event booking.
Joel's Tampa show is slated for 8 p.m. Jan. 22. Tickets go sale at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 23, and they'll set you back are $39.50, $89.50 or $119.50, plus service charge.
You can order tickets by phone (800-745-3000) or by going to amaliearena.com.
Whether the concert is announced by the Mayor Buckhorn or by Elmer Straub, a Billy Joel concert is a big deal. Besides selling more than 150 million albums, Joel has received a Kennedy Center Honor, one of the country's top cultural awards, six Grammy Awards and a Tony Award. He's also been inducted into the Songwriter's Hall of Fame and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame
