The classic Southern rock band will be at the Neel Performing Arts Center

In the pre-disco era of the 1970s, there was nothing bigger in popular music than Southern rock, and there were few bigger Southern rock acts than the Marshall Tucker Band.

You may not hear them much on the radio these days, unless you tune into classic rock stations, but MTB has never stopped making music. Their latest album, their 28th, came out three years ago. In recent years, their music has made it to the middle levels of the country charts instead of the rock charts, even though it doesn't sound all that much different from their classic work.

They'll be in Bradenton on Monday for a concert at the Neel Performing Arts Center at State College of Florida.

Almost all of the other original members have left the band. Primary songwriters Toy and Tommy Caldwell both passed away. But singer Doug Gray is still fronting the band after 46 years, so you'll still hear the familiar voice behind "Heard It in a Love Song," "Fire on the Mountain" and "Take the Highway." (Toy Caldwell sang lead on the band's first hit, "Can't You See," so that one may sound a bit different.)

Details: 8 p.m. April 4 Neel Performing Arts Center at State College of Florida, 5840 26th St. W., Bradenton. Tickets: $39-$50 Information: 941-752-5252.
