Duran Duran, Chic perform in Tampa
If you were a kid in the1980s, you probably loved Duran Duran. Especially if you were a girl.
The impossibly handsome British quintet ruled MTV wth spectacular videos, great hair and clothes and danceable, synth-pop songs through the early years of the decade.
Almost all the lineup that you loved -- singer Simon LeBon, bassist John Taylor, keyboardist Nick Rhodes and drummer Roger Taylor -- are still members, and they'll be on stage at the MidFlorida Credit Union Amphitheatre in Tampa on Saturday. (Guitarist Andy Taylor is the only member of the classic lineup who won't be there.)
If you're a little older, you were probably into Chic, the '70s disco-funk band that scored with "Le Freak," "Good Times" and other hits. Chic, featuring founding guitarist Nile Rodgers, is on the bill with Duran Duran.
The tour's called "Paper Gods," after the latest Duran Duran album, which came out in September of last year. It was co-produced by Rodgers, who goes way back with Duran Duran. He worked with them on "The Reflex" and he produced their 1986 album "Notorious."
