More than 100 student performers are part of this year's show

It's billed as "The Greatest Little Show on Earth." But it's not all that little.

In fact, the Sailor Circus Spring Performance, which opens Thursday in Sarasota features more than 100 circus artists.

They're circus students, but they perform the same kind of acts the professionals do, including trapeze and high-wire acts.

The Sailor Circus has been around for 67 years, and it has trained a lot of young people who went on to be stars of international circus. So besides seeing some great entertainment, you may be getting a look at the future of circus arts.

They're all students at the Sailor Circus Academy, which began as a high school gymnastics class in 1949. It's now part of the Circus Arts Academy, and it has grown into one of the most rigorous and most respected circus training programs in the country.

The show is not little, but some of the performers are -- they range in age from 8 to 18. The price is one the small side too, only $20 for adults and $15 for kids.

Details: March 31-April 9, Sailor Circus Arena, 2075 Bahia Vista St., Sarasota. Show times: 7 p.m. Thursday-Friday, 2 and 7 p.m. Saturday. Tickets: $20 adults, $15. Information: 941-355-9805.circusarts.org.
