Tampa's Straz Center announces 2016-17 Broadway season

The 2016-17 Broadway season at the Straz Center for the Performing Arts in Tampa brings back some of the classics of contemporary musical theater and introduces area audiences to some of the most acclaimed show of the past few years.

Among the classic musicals: "Into the Woods," "The Little Mermaid," "Cabaret" and "Wicked."

But the season, which was announced today, kicks off with "The Cu

rious Incident of the Dog in The Night-Time," a non-musical that won the Tony Award for Best Play (and a bunch of other Tony Awards) last year. "Finding Neverland" and "Something Rotten!" are among the new musicals coming to the area for the first time.

Bridging the gap between the new and the classic is "An American in Paris," a 2015 adaptation of the 1951 Gene Kelly film.

Here's the entire Broadway season schedule:

"The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time," Nov. 8-13.

"Into the Woods," Nov. 29-Dec. 4.

"An American in Paris," Dec. 20-25.

"Forbidden Broadway," Jan. 10-March 12, 2017 (in the Jaeb Theater).

"Cabaret," Jan. 24-29.
