The 19th annual Cortez Nautical Flea Market set for Saturday

There’s an old joke that says the best two best days in boat owners’ lives are the day they buy their boats and the day they sell them.

In between those two, another great day has to be one spent at the annual Cortez Nautical Flea Market, which has been a favorite destination for boat lovers since way back in the 20th century.

The 19th annual Cortez Nautical Flea Market is set for Saturday at the Florida Maritime Museum in Cortez.

No matter what boat-ish item you’re looking for, there’s a good chance you’ll find it at the flea market. The people at the museum promise “piles” of new and used boat stuff.

And if you’re strapped for cash, you can still pick up some nautical treasures. A lot of people who will bring their wares to the flea market will be willing to barter, so bring some of your unwanted nautical items and maybe you can trade for something you want or need.

It’s also just a fun day to browse around the historic fishing village of Cortez and get to know some fellow boat lovers.

There’s also live music from the Treble Hooks, a Clearwater band that calls their music “rock ‘n’ reel.”

The weather should be ideal for an outdoor morning by the water, but if it becomes really rainy the flea market will be delayed a week, until Saturday, Oct. 29, organizers say.

Details: 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Oct. 22, (Rain date Oct. 29) Florida Maritime Museum, 4415 119th St. W., Cortez. Free. 941-708-6120, floridamaritimemuseum.org.
