The 17th annual Sarasota Medieval Fair is underway at its new home in the “Woods of Mallaranny,” a 47-acre festival grounds in Myakka City.
Those who attend 2021’s fair will find dozens of ways to immerse in Middle Ages merriment, including many carryovers from the event’s old Sarasota location.
Sights and sounds to enjoy on each day of the fair include jousting, “human combat chess,” comedy acts, live period music, daredevils, acrobats and historical presentations.
Other attractions include rides and games, face painting and an artisan marketplace. The family-friendly event also offers activities for kids daily.
In Sarasota Medieval Fair tradition, each year’s festival has a grand theme. This go round, the event centers on an epic historical conflict: the Battle of Falkirk.

The 1298 A.D. battle pit Scottish independence-seekers, including William Wallace of “Braveheart” fame, against King Edward I’s invading English army.
Fairgoers can witness reenactments of the battle throughout the day.
