Manatee County Fair continues with food, fun and music

The Manatee County Fair continues through Sunday and the biggest name on this weekend's music lineup is Rhonda Vincent. The bluegrass superstar is scheduled to perform at 8 p.m. Friday.

Vincent's been recording for decades, and she was named Female Vocalist of the Year by the International Bluegrass Music Association every year between 2000 and 2006. But she says her career is at its peak right now. "We played more shows last year than we ever have before," she said in a phone interview. "That's how we measure this stuff, by the number of shows we book. And already, we have more shows booked for 2015 than we played in 2014."

Besides that, her latest album, "Only Me," was recently nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Bluegrass Album. It's also the fastest-selling of the 16 solo albums she has released so far. Her duet with Willie Nelson on the title song no doubt gave the album a boost, but It's her third straight album to reach number one on the bluegrass charts. Her last eight albums have all reached number two or higher.
