Food and Wine on Pine set for Saturday in Anna Maria

It's called Food and Wine on Pine, but there's a lot more too it than just eating and drinking.

This Saturday's event on Anna Maria Island features more than local artists displaying their watercolors, metal work, jewelry and pottery, dozens of musical acts, national sidewalk chalk artists, a children's area with exhibitions by young artists and activities for young people, costumed actors depicting characters from Anna Maria history and a Kentucky Derby tent that will screen races all day long.

But food and fine are still the main attraction.

This year's Food and Wine on Pine features offerings from more than 20 area restaurants and more than 30 types of upscale wine. And for people who are drinkers, but not wine drinkers, the event also offer craft and specialty beers, along with a selection of domestic beers.

The $5 entry fee covers an arm band, a wine glass and a buffet tray, and then you buy tickets for $1 each that will get you food and drinks. Most food and beverage items are priced between 2 and 10 tickets each, with wines and craft or specialty beers available for tastings or by the glass.

There will be free event parking at the Anna Maria Island Community Center (within walking distance, two blocks from the event), with free parking and free trolley service available at CrossPointe Fellowship in Holmes Beach.

Details: 11:30 a.m.-6:30 p.m. May 7, Pine Avenue, Anna Maria. Tickets: $5. Information: 941-778-8705, foodandwineonpine.com.
