Despite having one of the most unappealing band names in the history of rock music, Puddle of Mudd has been creating hit songs and albums since the beginning of the 21st century.

And despite being repeatedly accused of lip synching at live performances, the Puddle remains a popular concert attraction. The band, led by singer-guitarist-songwriter Wes Scantlin -- the only Mudder who's been with the band since the beginning -- will perform at Jannus Live in downtown St. Petersburg on Friday.

It's been a few years since Puddle of Mudd released an album. The band's last was "re:(disc)covered," an album of classic rock cover versions that came out in 2011. They're reportedly working on new album of original stuff now.

A great Palmetto-based band, Muphin Chuckrs, opens the Jannus show. The other opener is an area band called Bless Ed.

Jannus Live is a fairly intimate outdoor venue with limited seating. You'll probably have to stand for the entire show. But if you get there early you can probably grab a seat, or you can stake out a place close enough to the stage to tell Scantlin whether lip synching
