It's easy to think of The Cult as an '80s band. The British quartet hit its commercial peak in the mid-1980s, and became was an MTV staple with such songs as "She Sells Sanctuary" and "Love Removal Machine." They broke up in the '90s after a couple of lackluster albums and reports of difficulties between the band's key members, singer Ian Astbury and guitarist Billy Duffy. Both went on to other projects, including Astbury's well-known stint fronting a re-formed version of the Doors.

But Astbury and Duffy have been have apparently been getting along famously in the 21st century, and The Cult is again a major international concert draw. The band, which now has bassist Grant Fitzpatrick and former White Zombie drummer John Tempesta backing up Astbury and Duffy, will be at the Mahaffey Theater in St. Petersburg on Friday.

In February, The Cult released its 10th studio album, "Hidden City." It's the last installment of a trilogy of album, that began with 2007's "Born Into This" and "Choice of Weapon" in 2011.

In the past, The Cult has performed concerts that featured just its most recent album. But reports from this tour indicate that the band's set list has included a handful of songs from "Hidden City" and a heavy dose of selections from its classic '80s albums "Love," "Electric" and "Sonic Temple."
