Bradenton's We the Kings headline St. Pete concert
One of Bradenton's biggest and best rock bands has an almost-hometown show coming up.
We the Kings will be at the State Theatre in St. Petersburg on Friday, topping a bill that includes four up-and-coming acts: AJR, She Is We, Elena Coats and Brothers James.
AJR is a New York-based trio (brothers Adam, Jack and Ryan Met) who make their eclectic records in the living room of their Manhattan apartment.
She Is We is an interesting band with an odd history. It started as a duo called He Is We and found social media success. Founding member Rachel Taylor left the band and was replaced, then returned, and the other original partner and Taylor's replacement later left the band themselves. Taylor continued as a solo act, using the name She Is We.
Elena Coats is a young singer-songwriter who has written, recorded and toured with We The Kings, whom she calls one of her all-time favorite bands.
We the Kings has been charting albums since 2005, and still features three of the original four members (singer-guitarist Travis Clark, guitarist Hunter Thomsen and drummer Danny Duncan). Bassist Charles Trippy and keyboardist Coley O'Toole joined in 2011. The band released its fifth full-length studio album, "Strange Love," back in November.
Details: 7 p.m. March 18, State Theatre, 687 Central Ave., St. Petersburg. Tickets: $24 plus service charge. Information: 727-895-3045, www.statetheatreconcerts.com.
