'The McCartney Years' comes in Sarasota
As tribute acts go, "The McCartney Years" would seem to be among the best. In fact, just a few months ago, "The McCartney Years" played in Buffalo, the night after Paul McCartney himself had played a concert there. A newspaper reviewer who saw both shows came away impressed by "The McCartney Years."
The show is a concert six-piece band that plays faithful renditions of McCartney-penned hits from the Beatles and Wings. It's in Sarasota Wednesday at the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall.
The band plays a three-hour concert that includes such seminal Beatles hits as "Hey Jude," "Lady Madonna," "The Long And Winding Road" and "Let It Be." But the emphasis is reportedly on songs from the '70s, including "Jet," "Band On the Run" and "Live And Let Die." The show has received accolades from early Beatles promoter Sid Bernstein, who called the act "the best on the scene today" (presumably meaning the best among the Beatles tribute acts) and from Wings guitarist Denny Laine.
Yuri George J. Pool takes the role of McCartney in the show, and videos show that he re-creates Sir Paul's voice, mannerisms and '70s fashions almost perfectly.
Details: 8 p.m. March 2, Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall, 777 N. Tamiami Trail, Sarasota. Tickets: $20-$45. Information: 941-953-3368, vanwezel.org.
